ADNU Sports on the go
March 7 and 8 was a busy weekend for the sports program of Ateneo de Naga University as 3 of its varsity teams conducted several activities as part of their requirement as recognized teams of ADNU athletics program.
Last March 7, Saturday, the Ateneo Golden Cavalry, the school’s resident pep squad, conducted a 1-day cheer camp for cheer and dance enthusiasts within Naga City. The main objectives of the said activity were to promote the culture of cheer dancing and at the same time develop the organizing skills of its members. More than 20 participants took part in the event that was held at the covered courts of the university.
The evening of March 7 witnessed the coat and tie event of the men’s basketball team dubbed “The 5th Annual Ateneo Men’s Basketball Team Varsity Night Out.” The activity was held at the La Piazza Ballroom of the Avenue Square Plaza Hotel and was even covered by ABS-CBN. The varsity night out aimed to honor all the senior students who played their final year for Ateneo. The event also was a thanksgiving dinner for all the support that the team received for the year.
Lastly, the Ateneo Swimming Team took center stage last March 8 as they spearheaded the first ever Ateneo SwimFest – a swimming competition featuring the various varsity teams of Ateneo competing in different events. Coach King Chavez, the young and dynamic student-coach of the team led the organizing of the activity. The SwimFest is a trailblazing effort made by the Ateneo tankers in their thrust to promote not only swimming but also leadership and organizing to their present members.
This coming Summer, the Ateneo Athetics Program ventures into more sports activities as they conduct the 2nd Ateneo Basketball Camp (April 15 to May 15) and the 3rd Bigg’s Summer Camp for Kids (Basketball, Volleyball, Football, Taekwondo, Tennis and Swimming from April 1 to May 8)). Both activities are under the leadership of Coach Noli Ayo, Ateneo’s Athletics Director.
